Talk on UN Value "Humanity" and the Catholic Church by Professor Anthony Lilles

"Humanity" is a value in the framework of the United Nations. However, "humanity" is also the pathway of the Church. This great mystery opens to horizons of dignity, solidarity and greatness of purpose, vistas on which the Catholic faith sheds light. In this light, the breadth and length of humanity also has heights and depths, and these are the dimensions of God’s love. The Church helps us see these dimensions of the human mystery as the rallying point for more a meaningful and intense life together, a basis for culture and civilization. It is in this context that we find humanity’s deepest center. An unfathomable depth, this sacred place of encounter and personal communion with God is the only firm ground for all friendship and hope.
