Every once in a while, we all need some time to unplug. The noise of life, from daily tasks to technology, can sometimes be overwhelming. That’s where the value of a recollection comes in.
A recollection is a “mini-retreat,” a few hours of quiet prayer to look at our lives in God's presence. This time of prayer includes guided reflections before the Blessed Sacrament, a time for silent prayer, and the opportunity to go to confession.
The best way to enjoy a recollection is to avoid distractions. Set aside other tasks, switch your phone to “do not disturb,” and grab a notebook. It is a good idea to make note of resolutions and ideas throughout the recollection, but the most important thing is to put yourself in front of our Lord, to look at Him and to let Him look at you. It might not always be easy to find time to pray, but it is always worthwhile.
